Frequently asked questions by incoming students
Can you help me get admitted to the graduate program?:
No. I have no involvement with the admissions process. Please
go to the
CS web page for
more information about the admissions process.
Do you have an RA position for me?:
Incoming students often email me before arrival asking for a research
position.
I will not hire an incoming student whom I have never
met. RA positions are extremely valuable and when I have one
available, I typically choose from the students with whom I have
worked in the past. If I have a position available and nobody to
fill it, I will advertize the positions and interview applicants.
Thus, at the very least, you must be present on campus for me to
consider offering you a position.
If you are interested in working with me, I suggest you take a
course from me. This will give us both the opportunity to
evaluate each other. I typically teach Pervasive Computing in
the fall. Make sure you let me know during the class that you
are interested in working in my lab. If you still want to work
with me at the end of the course, setup an appointment with me
to talk about possibilities. At this point, I may suggest that
you take an independent study with me so that we can explore
a research relationship.
