CSG FAQ

Q: How do I open Microsoft Office 2007 files (like .docx and .pptx) on the Linux systems?

The integration of support for these files in OpenOffice is coming soon but, until then, you have two options:
  1. OdfConverter - You can convert these files into a format that is readable by OpenOffice using the docx2oo script. For example, if you have file.docx you can generate file.odt by running:

    docx2oo file.docx

Once you have file.odt you can open it with OpenOffice by running:

    ooffice file.odt

This works with .docx, .pptx, and .xlsx files.

  2. Citrix - You can run the Microsoft Office 2007 applications on your linux machine using the CS Citrix presentation server. Please see the Citrix FAQ Page for more information.
