CSG FAQ

Q: How do I access my Oncourse CL storage space on the Linux machines?

The IU Oncourse CL storage space is available via WebDAV using a command line tool on the linux machines (similar to ftp) and using a web browser. Here are some very basic instructions for accessing this storage space on the CS Linux machines.

Using the cadaver WebDAV client

Run cadaver as follows:

cadaver https://oncourse.iu.edu/dav/user/USERNAME

where you replace USERNAME with your username.

You will be prompted to login with your IU username and password. Once you are logged in you can enter "help" for a list of the commands available. For example, you can do the following:

  • Get a listing of the files/directories available by running ls.

  • Upload a file by running put filename.

  • Download a file by running get filename.

The cadaver client is very similar to ftp and supports things like mget and mput to get/put multiple files. Run help from cadaver for a list of commands.

Using a Web Browser

Point your web browser at https://oncourse.iu.edu/ and click on the "CAS Login" icon on the upper right corner of the page to login. Once you are logged in, you can access your "My Workspace Resources" folder from the "Resources" menu item.

Here are very basic instructions for up/downloading files to/from this storage space:

  • Upload a File - Click on "Add" in the Actions section of the folder you want to upload the file into. On the "Add Item" page set the type to "File Upload", enter the file (or browse to it), enter a title, and then click the Add button.

  • Download a File - Just click on the file link to download.

  • Remove Items - Check the box next to the item you want to remove and click on "Remove Selected".

You are encouraged to use the Oncourse Help for more detailed information about using Oncourse CL. To access the help, click on the "?" icon or select Help from the menu.
