CSG FAQ

Q: Where does email sent to my CS account go and how do I read it?

When new CS accounts are created, the email is forwarded to the main IU mail servers. This is done via a .forward file in your CS account home directory which will just contain a single line that says username@indiana.edu. So, any email sent to you at username@cs.indiana.edu will just be forwarded to username@indiana.edu and you will read it right along with your normal IU email.

If you would rather have your CS email forwarded to a different email address, all you have to do is just edit this .forward file.

If you would prefer to have your CS email delivered locally on the CS mail server (mail.cs.indiana.edu) all you have to do is just remove this .forward file. Once your email is being delivered on the CS mail server, you can read it using any standard email client using the IMAP protocol per the associated FAQ entry. There are also instructions available describing how to read your email via various mail clients:

If the mail client you are using isn't listed, just see the general IMAP/POP FAQ page for the information you will need to set this up.

If, after setting up local delivery of your CS email on the CS mail server, you want to forward your @indiana.edu email to your CS account, please see the associated FAQ.
