CSG FAQ

Q: Which mail program should I be using?

There are several programs available for reading email on the CS systems. Choosing which program to use will depend on your personal needs and preferences. However, we make the following recommendations:

  1. Webmail - If you want easy and universal access, then we recommend using Webmail. This allows you to access your email using just a web browser which provides convenient access from any system.

  2. Thunderbird - If you are looking for a more full-featured mail client we recommend using Mozilla Thunderbird. Thunderbird is widely used, installed on all CS systems, and is supported on all major computing platforms (including Windows, Mac OS, and Linux).

  3. Pine - If you find that you need a mail client that will work over a non-GUI terminal session, we recommend using pine. Pine has several disadvantages over webmail and thunderbird (especially in the handling of attachments) so is only recommended when those options are not feasible.
