August 15th, 2005 - New CGI/PHP Server

On August 15th, 2005, the current CS CGI/PHP server (grumpy) will be replaced with a new Linux system (belfry). The new server will continue to be available using the same URLs via cgi.cs.indiana.edu so the change should be transparent. However, this is a move from a Solaris system to a Linux system so there may be porting issues. In particular, if you have binary CGI programs for the old Solaris system, you will have to recompile them for Linux.

We have things set up so you can test your current CGI and PHP scripts using the new server. All you have to do it replace "cgi-pub" with "cgi-test" in the url and it will run on the new server. This provides an easy way for you to test your scripts in advance of the changeover. Please let us know if you have any trouble with your scripts on the new server.

For more information about running CGI and PHP scripts on the CS CGI server, please see the associated FAQs for CGI and PHP.
