Installing OpenSuSE 10.0 on a Dell Latitude D510Installing SuSE 10.0 was not that difficult. The installation was quite good at detecting all the needed features. However, there were a few areas where it was lacking: wireless, power management, and s-video.Wireless NetworkingThe wireless card was automatically detected by YaST, but not in Kinternet or other wireless management applications. The Intel Wireless 2915 card requires a firmware RPM in order to function properly. This RPM is available from the SuSE FTP site.Power ManagementWhenever I would close the lid of the laptop and reopen it, the screen would get stuck on a blank screen. I played with the features of ACPI to change the suspend features a bit (email me if you would like a copy of my settings). Also, I changed the "screen" in the video card section of YaST to the a "Dell Latitude D600" monitor, which may have played a role in the fix.S-videoUnfortunately, I have no advice here. I haven't devoted much effort to getting the laptop to output through the s-video port (it is a dual-boot and Windows suffices for that). However, the regular VGA output works correctly with the Fn hotkeys. If you have any information on getting this to work, let me know and I will post it here. |
