Businesses, governments, and consumers increasingly rely on the stability, security, and usability of web applications. But the scale of such applications can make the verification process both time-consuming and laborious. To reduce the overhead of the testing process and to ensure proper application behavior, testers need automated, cost-effective test strategies to develop, execute, and analyze the success of test cases. We have designed an open-source tool, WebVizOr, which aids in the analysis of test case results. Our tool takes as input the test cases, which are a series of HTTP requests sent to a web application, and the HTML responses generated on executing those test cases. In its simplest usage, WebVizOr provides a means for organizing and viewing the responses. Beyond visualization, WebVizOr harnesses the power of various oracles to automatically analyze and filter the HTML response s to locate symptoms of possible faults. Our poster describes the functionality of our tool, as well as its potential uses in industry and academic research. This work was funded by the CRA-W Distributed Mentor Project.

Thymocytes are precursors of T cells that derive from the thymus, which is the primary site of T cell lymphopoiesis. Proliferation of thymocytes is significant in T cell ontology and ultimately immune response. A comprehensive microarray analysis of the differentiation of thymocytes has provided a gene expression profile of these cells (Puthier, et al 2004). The authors reported a list of 350+ genes as being up- or down- regulated during thymocyte development, which have been categorized either by cell type in which component genes are expressed or the biological process in which component genes function. To determine if there is a common set of transcriptional control elements (and hence similar transcriptional mechanisms) regulating the expression of these genes, we have devised a bioinformatics approach to identify and analyze upstream regulatory regions of subsets of FBS.

Three Perspectives on Peer Tutoring for CS1

The pipeline of incoming computer science students has shriveled to half its size three years ago and, despite efforts to reverse the trend, the proportion of women students continues to dwindle. Computer science departments are realizing that immediate measures are needed to attract and retain undergraduate students. To address both the retention problem and the apparent disinterest for computer science among women, Indiana University established a peer-tutoring program for students in CS1 that also aims to increase the visibility and perception of undergraduate women in the department. We present the design and implementation of our program and describe our experiences, during its inaugural semester, from three perspectives Small Version of Poster (pdf)
