  • Just-In-Time (JIT) Assignment 1 and MINI Assignment 1 are both posted on the Homework Page and both are due by 10PM on Monday, January 15, 2024. Please be careful to read the submission instructions so you submit each one properly. NOTE IN PARTICULAR that I have again given specific instructions for the submission of your JIT 1 email. I have multiple courses, so following this requirement is very important and useful to me. Note that the JIT 1 link and the MINI 1 link take you to the SAME file. The two assignments are directly related, so I keep them in a single file. The JIT assignment is just the questions you have based on the research you do for the MINI assignment. Be sure to look this over at your earliest convenience and contact me if you have any questions.

We will look at them in detail in Meeting 2 on 1/11/24. ALSO note that, other than the "What is a Precis?" document (linked in the "MINI" section of the Homework Assignments page), (which you are encouraged to read a couple of times before class tomorrow), we are going to provide no guidance in how to complete this assignment. This gives us a chance to see where the group is, as a whole, when it comes to both writing and on-line research. Again, you are very strongly encouraged to read the "What is a Precise?" document before Meeting 2 on 1/11/24. More information will be provided once you get your MINI 1 feedback. ALSO ALSO note that all of you have access to Hoover via the Readings page, so you are expected to use Hoover as one of your 3 sources for EACH of the 3 topics. Finally, you are certainly free to start your research now if you wish.

  • Just-In-Time (JIT) 0 is posted on the Homework Page of the Course Website and due to Jeff by 10PM today, Tuesday, January 9, 2024 VIA Plain Text Direct EMAIL from your IU-assigned email account only. Brief comments in class today. You are very strongly encouraged to carefully read and exactly follow the formatting AND submission directions in order to receive credit for this first, small assignment. Failure to exactly follow the instructions for formatting and submission will result in no credit on this and any future assignments where the directions are not followed precisely.

  • Welcome to A111: Survey of Computers and Computing.

This website is ready for Spring 2024. All primary pages are now available. You have to have a valid IU NetworkID AND be officially enrolled in A111 in order to gain access to detailed course resources like Meeting Slides/Guides, Homework Assignments, and other such resources. If you are officially enrolled in A111 as of today, Monday, January 8, 2024, you should be able to access these restricted resources WHEN they become available. For Example, the JIT 0 assignment will be available tomorrow via the "Homework Assignments" page and our first meeting resources for Tuesday, January 9 will be available via the "Meeting Guides" page at approximately 9:00am tomorrow. Students officially in the course should be able to access both resources as they come available. You should already be able to access the current reading assignments on the Weekly Readings page.

Other primary links will allow you access to more basic information about the course schedule and other resources.

If you get the "Forbidden" message, it means I have not yet unlocked that resource. HOWEVER, if you get "permission denied" or "authorization required" it means you are not officially enrolled, or not on my access list. If you believe you are officially enrolled and cannot access these resources on or after 1/9/2024 please contact me.
