What-If Analysis, Charting, and Working with Large Worksheets

All pages are inside project 3 so the "E 3" prefix has been dropped.

  1. Read the project description up to including p. 6.

  2. Start Excel, reset toolbars and menus, bold the font of entire worksheet (p. 7).

  3. Enter titles, rotate text, use fill handle to create a series of month names (pp. 7-10).

  4. Use the Format Painter button to copy a cell's format (pp. 10-11).

  5. Increase column widths and enter row titles (pp. 11-13).

  6. Copy a range of cells to a nonadjacent paste area (pp. 13-15).

  7. Insert row (pp. 16-17). Read about inserting columns, individual cells, or a range of cells, as well as about deleting columns and rows, deleting individual cells or a range of cells (pp. 17-18).

  8. Enter numbers with a format symbol (pp. 18-19).

  9. Freeze column and row titles (pp. 19-20).

  10. Enter projected revenue (pp. 20-21).
  11. Enter and format the system date (pp. 21-24).

  12. Read about absolute vs. relative addressing (pp. 24-25).

  13. Enter formulas containing absolute cell references (pp. 25-26).

  14. Read about the IF function (p. 27).

  15. Enter an IF function (p. 28).

  16. Enter remaining data (pp. 29-30) and copy it with Fill Handle (pp. 30-31).

  17. Determine totals (p. 31).

  18. Unfreeze worksheet titles and save workbook (p. 32).

  19. Read the introduction to "Formatting the Worksheet" (p. 32), then assign formats to the projected revenue, expenses and net income (pp. 33-35), then format the worksheet titles (pp. 36-37).

  20. Display and dock the drawing toolbar (pp. 37-39).

  21. Add a drop shadow to the title area (pp. 39-40).

  22. Format the category row titles and net income row: change font size, add background colors, and add drop shadows to nonadjacent selections (pp. 40-42).

  23. Format the assumptions table (p. 42-43).

  24. Add a 3-D pie chart to the workbook (pp. 43-57).

  25. Check spelling, save, preview workbook (pp. 57-59).

  26. Change the view of the worksheet: shrink, magnify, split window (pp. 59-62).

  27. Read on "what-if" analysis (p. 63).

  28. Analyze data in the worksheet by changing values (pp. 64-65).

  29. Use "goal seeking" (pp. 65-67).
