Notes for examples to be discussed in class next week:

I will also indicate how much of Petchel can be read with where the basic track is at the moment.
Right now the first four chapters are accessible. (I might post other references too).

Mon Mar 31
I am going to start posting code from the second text (Horstmann).
For this week, up to and including chapter 6, these examples:

In class we will refer to these programs but we will always write something of our own, and always from scratch.

Thu Mar 27
Notes posted for the advanced track:

Reminder: the book is available for free on-line in the IUB Books24x7 OnLine Library.

The code provided in the notes I posted has been:

  • tested,
  • organized (grouped, along with assets: pictures or sounds, in the same page) and
  • cleaned (where necessary)

and is readily available for your examination.

Note that the online book is excellent but discusses the code in fragments and (unfortunately) those code fragments frequently have typos in them.

Hence the notes I post should be just what you need (along with the explanations in the text; the text is still good despite those typos).

Notes posted for your perusal this week and the next:

All you have to do is to keep in mind Petchel's book explains everything in these notes.

At this time you really only want to be able to run all programs listed. Just run them and enjoy them.

Tue Mar 04
Entering the Java jungle: notes (a little welcome, a few warm-ups).

Today in class we will mostly get to know each other, and start exploring Java, slowly.

Mon Mar 03
Class notes will be posted here for your convenience.

Lectures will cover the fundamentals of Java language.

Code in the two books above will be provided and discussed.

You can find the first in the bookstore, the second one is available for free on-line.

The code will be made available here, separately, and as we need to refer to it.
