Lecture/Exam Schedule for
Fall Semester 2009.

This is version 1.0 of the schedule for Fall Semester. Things could change depending on how we progress. If we move more slowly or more quickly than I plan, adjustments will be made. There is certainly more than enough material to cover.

EXAMS 1-3 will be on Wednesdays during the semester. EXAM 4 will be during the final exam period, which happens to also be on a Monday. We will make every effort to return them on the first class after the exam. Any changes to this schedule will be announced well in advance, in class.

EXAM SCHEDULE:

• EXAM 1: Wednesday, September 23 in LH115 during class time.
• EXAM 2: Wednesday, October 21 in LH115 during class time.
• EXAM 3: Wednesday, November 11 in LH115 during class time.
• EXAM 4: Monday, December 14 8:45 - 10:00am in LH115. (Just a normal 75-minute exam like the others).

Week of August 31:

• Lecture 1: Introduction.
• Lecture 2: What is a LAN, the OSI Model and the Physical Layer.

Week of September 7:

• Lecture 3:The Physical and Data-Link Layers.
• Lecture 4: The Data-Link Layer and Media Access Control Strategies. Homework 1 Posted.

Week of September 14:

• Lecture 5: The Network and Transport Layers.
• Lecture 6: The Transport and Session Layers. Homework 1 DUE.

Week of September 21:

• Lecture 7: The Session Layer, Summary of the OSI Model.
• EXAM 1 during classtime.

Week of September 28:

• Lecture 8: TCP/IP, Return/Discuss Exam 1.
• Lecture 9: TCP/IP.

Week of October 5:

• Lecture 10: TCP/IP.
• Lecture 11. TCP/IP. Homework 2 Posted.

Week of October 12:

• Lecture 12: Wireless Networking.
• Lecture 13: Wireless Networking. Homework 2 DUE

Week of October 19:

• Lecture 14: Future of Wireless and Protocol Summary.
• EXAM 2 during classtime.

Week of October 26:

• Lecture 15: IPSec and VPN, Return/Discuss Exam 2.
• Lecture 16: VPN and Introduction to Network Design. Homework 3 Posted.
• Wednesday, October 29 (until 4:00pm): Last day to Drop A338/A538 with an Automatic "W".

Week of November 10:

• Lecture 19: Directory Services and Summary.
• EXAM 3 during classtime.

Week of November 17:

Week of December 7:

Week of December 14: FINAL WEEK.
