Purpose:
The purpose of this assignment is to encourage you to write down what your opinion and beliefs are about the material that is presented in both lecture and lab. This is a place for you to begin developing an understanding of what you are experiencing in this course.
Please be sure to work on your diary each week. Waiting till the night before it is due will leave you with little to say about what you have been experiencing in the course. Please write professionally and with truth. Please tell me what you are really thinking.
Purpose:
This assignment allows you to look in-depth at a lecture topic that has interested you. You will be required to dig a little deeper by looking on the web, going to the library, and expanding your understanding further. You are to write a one page, double spaced paper about a topic of choice that has already been presented prior to each paper’s due date. Refer to the course calendar to determine due dates.
Purpose:
A mid-term exam will be given during week # to assess your knowledge and skills of what you have obtained during the first-half of the semester. Both application and knowledge will be assessed. The goal of this exam is to ensure that you are obtaining the information, turning it into knowledge, and then applying it in an exam environment. As the date approaches, more information will be provided.
Purpose:
There will be multiple lab assignments this semester that will allow you apply what you are learning in both lecture and lab. Below you will find a detailed explanation of each project type and its requirements.
Logic Laboratories
These assignments will stretch your problem solving abilities while also entertaining you with some fun. The goal is to not only solve the problems, but to also develop an ability to look at problems from different viewpoints. This will allow you to develop keener problem solving techniques.
Alice Laboratories
Alice is an object oriented programming environment. The goal of these assignments is to enable you to learn programming concepts that will enable you to create an interactive world. At the end of the semester it is hypothesized that you will be capable to develop a world that others can be immersed in and that you will have programming skills that can take you directly into the first core course in computer science, CSCI C211.
Purpose:
A final project presentation exam will be given during finals week to assess your knowledge and skills of what you have obtained during the semester by demonstrating an interactive world that was created in Alice. Both application and knowledge will be assessed in a laboratory setting. As the date approaches, more information will be provided.
Purpose:
Attendance is a primary key to passing this course. You will be unable to pass the course or gain an understanding of technologies impact on our lives without being at class. It is also important to understand that attendance is worth 30% of your final grade. I view it as very very important! If, for some catastrophic reason, you are unable to attend a particular class day, it is your responsibility to let me know beforehand and/or as soon as possible afterwards.
