Session 9: Information Visualization in Java
Katy Börner, Assistant Professor, SLIS, IUB
<katy@indiana.edu>
Nathan James Deckard, CS Student, IUB <ndeckard@cs.indiana.edu>
This session will introduce a Java software library for research and
education in Information Visualization. The covered algorithms transform
data and information that are not inherently spatial into a visual form,
thereby allowing the user to observe, interact with, and comprehend large
amounts of data.
The library comprises common preprocessing, data analysis, and data
layout algorithms, as well as algorithms that enable users to interactively
explore data sets. An overview of algorithms can be found at http://iv.slis.indiana.edu/sw/.
A unified XML toolkit architecture (http://iv.slis.indiana.edu/sw/toolkit.html)
provides a flexible infrastructure in which multiple algorithms can be
incorporated and combined.
