Kirkwood Avenue: Bloomington's Street of Dreams
Kirkwood, alias East Fifth Street, is the focus of Bloomington's, er,
unique culture. It is the airlock through which most
of the collegiate population enters the downtown area, and is kind of
a buffer zone protecting all the locals from the University
atmosphere. Kirkwood offers just about everything you need to scrape
together your existence as a student: small grocery stores,
bookstores, banks, the county library, bars, restaurants, record
stores, and other miscellaney make up what is best described as
The Kirkwood Experience.
If you decide to enter the throng of humanity, you might want to have
a good idea just what is available along the Street
of Dreams, so, in the interest of public safety, here's a condensed
list of (just about) everything on or near Kirkwood Avenue, from
Walnut Street to the Sample Gates.
