Symposium on Space and Language Laura Carlson-Radvansky (University of Notre Dame, psychology) Mike Gasser (Indiana University, computer science, linguistics) Linda Smith (Indiana University, psychology) Terry Regier (University of Chicago, psychology) While there has been considerable work done in recent years addressing the linguistic structuring of space, a gap remains between the empirical work and some of the computational modeling efforts. We hope to begin closing that gap. Two of the researchers who will take part in this symposium are involved primarily in empirical work of relevance to spatial language (Carlson-Radvansky, Smith), while the other two are modelers (Gasser, Regier). All share an interest in perceptual categorization and spatial language. Each participant will briefly present his or her work (30 minutes), and the remaining 1 hour will be devoted to discussion.
