I've set up a Picons Sonification page, mostly for fun:

	http://www.cs.indiana.edu/picons/javoice/index.html

which let's you convert GIF picon images into an audible form.

Enjoy, Steve

I'm trying to access the picons search via the
webpage at http://www.cs.indiana.edu:80/picons/search.html
and am having no luck. It (the form) tries to connect to:
http://www.cs.indiana.edu:800/piconsearch, but it
times out. Is the server down for service or the like?
If anyone knows, I'd appreciate a response.

Thanks,

Subject: Picons Sampler
Errors-To: faces-request@cs.indiana.edu

The Picons Archive web page
<URL:http://www.cs.indiana.edu/picons/ftp/index.html> now includes an
interactive random sampler for each main picons database. Since it uses
JavaScript, it works best with a Netscape browser, but other browsers
will get samples, too, just less interactively (try reloading the page).

This uses the Picons Search engine
<URL:http://www.cs.indiana.edu/picons/search.html>, which was recently
enhanced to be able to do random picons searches within arbitrary
constraints.

From: Dave Cohrs <cohrs@Legato.COM>
Errors-To: faces-request@cs.indiana.edu

I want to set up a binding for all the mail I get from the Pilot users
mailing list. The common element I can see in these messages is the "Sender:"
header, so I tried:

XFaces.beforeImageBindings: \
	Sender:	owner-pilot:	pilot

But the faces still all came up as "the unknown picture". I tried

XFaces.afterImageBindings: \
	Sender:	owner-pilot:	pilot

But the faces still all came up as "the unknown picture" (how? By doing
this, I thought I would lose my "* *: unknown" spec, so how did it find the
unknown picture? Yes, I really did an "xrdb -load" on each attempt).

Where do I need to put the "pilot" file? This is actually a an xbm file.
I've tried, using the facedbpath, putting it in
	MISC/pilot/face.xbm
	MISC/pilot.xbm
	pilot.xbm
MISC/unknown/pilot.xbm (this follows the model I used for
					a default sound)

All to no avail. No matter what, I get the unknown face.
I'm stumped. Anyone know what I really should do?

In-Reply-To: Dave Cohrs's message of Mon, 10 Mar 1997 14:23:40 PST.

I figured it out myself while the message was in transit.

It appears the before and after image bindings only look inthe imagePath,
not in the facedbPath, so I fixed my imagePath and put the appropriate xbm
file in a directory in my imagePath, and it started working.

I assume the unknown face kept showing up because it was a built-in. It
turned out I had my imagePath set to a non-existant directory, so it never
was finding my unknown face (but the default must have been the same).

Subject: Picons Memory Game
Errors-To: faces-request@cs.indiana.edu

Dear Faces mailing listers,

I've created a new game on the Web using picons. It's the Memory card
game in JavaScript. Check it out at

	http://www.cs.indiana.edu/cgi-bin/picons-memory

You'll need Netscape Navigator 3.0 or later, since it uses image
replacement. You can configure your game for any number of players, any
number of cards and any set of Web images to use for the card pictures.
Many pre-defined random subsets of picons are available for the pictures,
too.

I'm announcing this here first hoping to get some testing & feedback
before I announce it more broadly, so please feel free to send me some.

Thanks, Steve Kinzler
