About the Author

I like to hike, backpack in the alpine, run outdoors, downhill ski on long verticals, and cycle on my Lemond. I read literature less today than I'd like to. The Russian spirit captured by the late 19th century authors, particularly Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, and Turgenev totally resonates with me. In fact, my favorite book of all time is Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov.

"Call on God, but row away from the rocks"

I felt a cleaving in my Mind -
As if my Brain had split -

The thought behind, I strove to join
Unto the thought before -
But Sequence ravelled out of Sound -
Like Balls - upon a Floor. --- Emily Dickinson

This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by ourself as a mighty one ... the being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. --- George Bernard Shaw
