the dance of destiny (1/14 and 1/15/05)

i was reading today about the
question of if destiny finds you
or if you have to go out and find destiny.

i think the answer is both -
you look, it finds.
it looks, you find.
it's more like a dance or a chess game -
my moves affects the moves made by destiny
destiny's moves affect my moves
my next moves affect destiny's next moves
and so on.

so am i looking for my destiny?
i suppose.
is my destiny trying to find me?
i suppose.
my destiny is out there somewhere,
right here beside me,
and in all the spaces i cover in between.

destiny is like everything else in life -
it evolves, changes, grows and shrinks according to choices made
before i was born and during my life,
some of which i get to make but most of which aren't up to me.
even some of my choices are made
subconsciously not consciously
so do i really choose those choices?
could i call that the choice of destiny?
maybe. or maybe it's just me and destiny is a fiction....

but, it makes me feel good to believe in destiny
and feeling good leads to doing well.
the structure that destiny provides -
the conglomeration of all those unknown and unchosen choices -
is worth the weightiness it puts on me.
not sure it'd be worth it to you, though - gotta decide for yourself...

destiny, choice, both or neither - who knows?
all we really know is that so it goes...
