During my school days, I was an active member of my
school dodge-ball team. If you don't know what dodge-ball is, you should
see this. I also used to play badminton and cricket a lot, list most other
Indians. I used to practice at a local badminton club, and this lasted for
around 2 years after which studies took a higher priority.
In Junior college, I did not get much chance and the
time to continue playing these games. But it was during my engineering
course, that I began to play table-tennis and my current grasp of the game
is above average - I would say. The sole place to play this was in college
, which boasted of just three tables with 30 people competing to play!
Well, when you play under such circumstances, you tend to learn the game
quickly!!
I may not have won medals for my sporting
activities, but I have always been eager to learn and improve upon my current
skills. In College, I used to be in the crowd to cheer my team during
their matches and this is no mean job too. Sometimes, you just would lose
your voice doing that for hours together, and at other times, you would
have 100 people cheering for the opposition while you would be the only
person cheering for your team! Hmmm..You definitely should stay closest to
the nearest exit in such cases!
Football also caught my fancy in college. I played
for my class team and for the first time in four years, we reached the
finals!! We lost in the finals, but we took pleasant memories of all the
games we played. I would also mention that we allowed only one goal
to be scored against us in the games before the final one, and
unfortunately, it was a self-goal hit by none other than me!! (I
was a defender). But all in my team would agree, that I was a
pretty good defender. My bruises are testimony to that!
This is the football team. I was not there when the photo was clicked, as
I was out on some other work.
