Subject: Read 1st Revised 8/18/94 ---------------------------------------------------------------- ASSEMBLED AND TESTED USERS READ THIS FIRST Your unit is ready to wire into your lighting system, but you must select an appropiate resistor for R11. Various resistor values are shipped with the unit, and a 200K is intalled as delivered. The 200K is correct for a 5.2 volt bulb. You must change the resistor if you are using a different voltage bulb by unplugging the 200K and replacing it as follows (unless you are using a 5.2 volt bulb): Voltage R11 Bulbs ----------------------------------------- 5.5 V 220K HPR36 5.2 V 200K HPR50, 425 4.8 160K K-15 Krypton 3.75 100K Petzl standard and halogen, HPR-41, K-3 2.8 47K HPR52 2.33 33K K-1, K-2, K-4, K-222, PR-2, 243 Your unit is otherwise ready to go. DO NOT adjust VR1. It has been set already and does not need to be touched again, regardless of what value for R11 you select or how many times you change it. Once the resistor is changed then the unit is ready to wire up. See the wiring section of the instructions. Note also that if the power is connected backwards to the unit R10 will burn out immediately, however nothing else will be damaged. This 2 cent part will save the rest of the unit from damage, but if you don't have a soldering iron and a replacement resistor this could prove frustrating. My suggestion is to be careful about battery polarity so this doesn't happen. However, if it should happen, don't despair, I will fix it for free if you send it back to me with a self address stamped envelope for its return. Also, if you have purchased the low power version there are two resistors (R3 and R8) which are not on the board. This is not a mistake, as these resistor are not needed with the CMOS 555's.
