SURG investigates a variety of issues in ubiquitous computing, including security, privacy and user acceptance. The key attributes of our target environment are:

  • Sensors and processors embedded in the physical environment

  • Mobile devices and users

  • Collaborative applications

  • Context-aware (physical and virtual) applications

  • Non-technical users

We are currently investigating the following application domains:

  • patient-oriented, health-care information systems
  • minimizing inappropriate cell phone interruptions
  • automatic service discovery for ubiquitous computing
  • enabling common users to manage their own devices securely
