Importance of the Text Track in Movie Databases

Scripts indicate some of the semantic information contained in a movie's images and sounds. As a simple example, a script spells out exactly what a character says. For example, one might want to find the scenes in the movie Star Wars where Luke Skywalker learns about RThe Force.S If the lines of a script were linked with the frames in which a character spoke them, one might query, ``Show me all the frames in the movie Star Wars where Luke Skywalker mentions `The Force.''' Without such a model, one would have to search linearly through the movie, perhaps with the script in hand, relying on one's own ability to recognize what was going on in a particular scene.
