We joyfully thank and praise the Lord for
the birth of

who was born at home at 2:33 a.m. on Monday, October 9, 2000.
She weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces and was 22 inches long.

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” —Psalm 139:14-16 (NIV)
Little Mariah arrived safely after a mostly mild labor. The goodness and mercy of the Lord were evident throughout. Sister Ruth was ecstatic to meet and love “her” new baby just minutes after the birth. She giggled with glee, lovingly touched, and whispered secrets to Mariah. She announced to me that she would nurse the baby first—then I could have my turn! The other two sisters, Elizabeth and Sarah, were invited to meet Mariah right after the birth, but they could not be roused from their sound sleep.
Doctor Bob switched roles and became Stacy's nurse and manager of the house & kids for the first couple weeks, after which he was ready to get back to “work.” Family, friends, and neighbors also helped with meals and child care.
What a delight it has been to cuddle a newborn again!
Mariah means “God is my teacher.” It is a variant of Moriah, which is found in two parts of the Bible:
