At the completion of this module, you will know
Examine the many different fonts which are available. When you're examining the fonts, you should be considering the following questions: Is the font serif or sans-serif? Is it monospace or proportional? What would be an appropriate use for this font?
Download the file "simon.doc" from FirstClass, and open the document in Word. Each paragraph in the document instructs you to perform a different form of character formatting.
Download the file "garage.doc" from FirstClass. The file consists of unformatted text for a garage sale (the text has been centered using justification, which you will learn about in the next module). Format the document to create a full-page sign/advertisement (use Print Preview to make sure that you are making full use of the page). The sign should be eye-catching yet readable, and should demonstrate good use of the different fonts and character formats.
Try out the on-line help system by searching for a keyboard shortcut for typing special characters such as the hyphen, en-dash, and em-dash.
