Drills
What happens when you copy from one application and paste into another?
Try this in two ways: First, try copying some text from a web page being
viewed in Netscape, and pasting this text into a Word document. Second,
try copying some text from Word and pasting this text into a FirstClass
message. Which techniques work? Are fonts and character formats copied
as well?
Download the file "simon2.doc" from FirstClass, and open the document
in Word. Each paragraph in the document instructs you to perform a different
form of paragraph formatting.
Examine the different pre-defined styles available in MS Word. Pay particular
attention to styles you use often in papers (such as quotations and footnotes)
or in business letters (bulleted lists, envelope addresses, signatures).
Investigate (using on-line help, if necessary) how to create Stationary
(on the Macs) and Templates (on the PCs) in order to save style sheets
for reuse. The use of style sheets is discussed in The Better Way.
Compose a resume for yourself, using styles. The resume should be extremely
conservative in formatting and be saved as "Resume1.doc". Once completed,
change the formatting to be much more aggressive and energetic by redefining
your styles. This new resume should be saved as "Resume2.doc".
