Other Lodging

Indianapolis is a popular conference center, located near the
middle of the United States, and popular for automobile racing,
and its sports, especially basketball. Lodging during a popular
event is both expensive and difficult to find, with room charges
exceeding US$ 200.00 at major hotels.

Less expensive rooms will be found at hotels on the periphery of
Indianapolis, but travel times and taxi fares may reduce savings.
A guide to hotels is available on-line. Hotels on the south and
west sides of Indianapolis are located nearest the conference site.

Three moderately-priced hotels, which still have rooms available
during August 22 to August 24 are listed on the map of Indianapolis
and its surroundings. All are approximately 8-10 miles (12.8-16 km)
distant from the conference site at the University Place Hotel.

Travel

Indianapolis is served by an international airport. Delta Airlines
has a hub there. All major rental car agencies have offices at the
airport. Across from baggage claim area Number Two is the Ground
Transportation Center, where shuttle, limousine and taxi service
are available.

Driving in Indianapolis is eased by the wide streets, although many
streets are one way only, so some planning may be needed to get
where you are going. Downtown parking is available in numerous
underground parking garages at rates of US$ 8-15 per day, and hourly
rates of US$ 1.50-3.00.

There is bus service within the city, including the IPCAT conference
site, but none to the airport.

Weather

During IPCAT the weather may be extremely hot and humid, with
temperatures ranging into the 90 degree Fahrenheit range
(32 degrees Celsius) during the day. There may be occasional
afternoon thunderstorms, but no severe weather is expected at that
time of year. Dress for hot weather, with a sweater for use in the
air-conditioned conference rooms.
