programming languages seminar

Greetings! Here is the weekly

                     Programming Languages Seminar

A number of faculty interested in programming languages and systems
have been talking about organizing a weekly seminar that could gather
together people interested in programming languages. It is intended
to be informal, serving as a means for all of us to communicate about
(polished and not polished) ideas related to various aspects of
programming, which may include principles, foundations, applications,
and cool tools. The topics of meetings are to be driven by the
participants, and we will make announcements before the meetings.

We hope to have the meetings scheduled on Friday mornings 10-11 in
Lindley Hall 101. Since it conflicts with the Integration Program in
September, we will meet on Friday mornings 8-9 (just to see how
seriously you are interested :-)) for September, and a room will be
announced as soon as it is confirmed.

The first meeting will be on Friday, Sept.13. It will be an
organizational meeting, in which everyone who wishes will be given a
few minutes to talk about what he or she has been working on, what he
is interested in hearing in the seminar, and what he can talk about
and when. Everyone is also encouraged to mention outside speakers or
other outside events that might be of interest. We will then discuss
the topics (and "vote" if you want) and make up a schedule for the
rest of the semester.

Please feel free to give us any comments and suggestions. We will do
our best to keep the topics of interest to the majority (if that is at
all possible :-)). Annie Liu is organizing the meetings for the fall,
and Benli Pierce will be in charge for the spring.

This is a good opportunity for everyone interested in programming
languages to get together. We look forward to seeing you there.
