pl seminar: topics and tentative talks

Hello. The first meeting of the programming language seminar resulted
in roughly 3 main topics (each has a list of people relatively heavily
involved) and a number of tentative talks (each has a speaker) for the
semester:

 1. program optimizations
(Mark Leone, Bob Burger, Kent Dybvig, Annie Liu, David Wise, ...):
	run-time code generation (Mark)
caching intermediate results for program improvement (Annie)
	compile-time garbage collection (David)
 2. distributed languages and systems
(Benli Pierce, Dennis Gannon, Scott Stoller, ...):
an extension of Pi-calculus for a distributed language (Benli)
	distributed system analysis (Scott)
	distributed applications (Dennis)
 3. modules and objects
(Chris Haynes, Kent Dybvig, Oscar Waddell, Eric, Benli, ...):
	syntactic extension and OO (Kent/Oscar?)
discussion about OO and modules (Chris)
	modules and macros (Eric?)
 other topics:
reflection, self-modifying code (Brian Smith, Perry Wagle)
	visualization (Kent/?)
	OpenGL (Andy Hanson)?

We will try to proceed in the order of topics 1-2-3, with minimum
exceptions, and with other topics arranged at appropriate slots as
time goes. Each meeting will consist of talk(s) and discussions.

Note that these are based on discussions on last Friday and are by no
means exhaustive or fixed. If you were not able to attend the first
meeting but would like to add to the list of topics, please feel free
to let us know. Other comments and suggestions are also welcome.
