Does Our Model of Parallel Programming Tool Design Scale To Meta-Computing?

			   Dennis Gannon

We now have a reasonable model of how to design a limited class of
programming tools for homogeneous, scalable parallel computers.
The HPC++ project extends this model in a few directions.
However we are now well along the road to a model of supercomputing
that is based on heterogeneous networks of high performance servers,
workstations and specialized resources like visualization tools,
data base servers, and special instruments. This talk will try to
draw upon our very limited initial experiences in this area and to comment
on how our tool model will need to be changed.
