Sunset Haiku (2/10/96)

I.
blue and streaking gold
colors change to cinnamon
by the setting sun

II.
strands of cloud alight
turning white, red, gold, black
in turn by the sun

III.
Liberty's crown set
on high by cloud/sky strata
light fades with the sun.

IV. (webster -t)
cerulean sky
maroon shades evanescing
solar course complete

Note:

I saw a really gorgeous sunset last night and I wanted to write about it.
Actually, I wanted to take a picture of it, but I suck as a photographer
and my camera is pretty lousy, so it's 5-7-5 Haiku time...
Somewhere in all those words, I hope you get a picture of a beautiful sunset.

I suppose if I were a gung-ho/good poet, I'd try to mold the images into my
idea of the perfect 17 syllables. To me, what's really important is getting
some words down so I can remember the incident and its overtones later and
let it be safely forgotten -- works great for bad shit and it's nice for
nice things, too.
