tell me a story, sing me a song (11/15/04)

love comes as a conversation
hearing the words
the tones that coax
the sounds that caress
the brain and heart
into raising rusty gates
that lead into cobwebbed rooms
rust and faded gold sparkle

in bright red, yellow, blue, and green
the colors of life and love
all from words, whispers, shouts -
of dreams, thoughts, and hopes...
occasional fears and tears, but mostly
lilting, sonorous words and
gripping, engulfing, wonderful laughs
the powerful sound of the human voice
to enrapture, enrage, enhance and engage

my eyes wander to see all beauty around
but my ears are fixed
by glorious sounds, grand hopes, and great ideas
and, for me, at least
the ears are the doorways to the soul...
