Hello! I am Yiming Sun, currently a Computer Science Ph.D. student at Indiana University.
I am working in the Distributed Data Everywhere (DDE) lab, which has now evolved into the Data to Insight (D2I) Center, one of the three centers of the Pervasive Technology Institute, and is directed by Professor Beth Plale.
In our lab, our projects and research areas mainly focus on large-scale data management and databases, data streams, distributed systems, and middleware architectures. I have very strong interests in these areas and will focus my research in data search, discovery, and preservation. I have been working on the LEAD (Linked Environments for Atmoshperic Discovery) project for the past 5 years. This is a Scientific Gateway project in meso-scale meteorology that involves multiple institutes, and I had the opportunity to work with many talented people, both from our IU and from other organizations.
Currently I am working on a few projects simultaneously. One of which is the Karma provenance collection toolkit and I am the senior software developer on this project. I am also involved in the application and adaptation of Karma to the NASA AMSR-E Satellite Sea Ice Processing project where we would collect provenance information and use that to answer scientists' questions. I am also involved in the application and adaptation of Karma to the Global Environment for Network Innovation (GENI) project. In addition to that, I am also working on the development of the Data Engine for the One Degree Imagery (ODI) project.
My dissertation thesis topic is on the Preservation of e-Science Experiments, and I hope to have it finished soon
