Martha's House is the new homeless shelter in Bloomington. We are dedicated to providing comfortable, overnight accommodations for those in need. Martha's House is the only provider of individual emergency shelter and case management services in Monroe County that serves both men and women and does not require participation in religious services or is related to specific concerns (such as domestic violence or addiction recovery) as a condition of shelter.

Statistics

During our first four months of operations, we have served 106 unduplicated individuals for 1,571 nights of service. The range has been from 7 to 25 people per night.

Rules for Entry

We require that all residents get a referral from the Police department dated the day they are entering. This ensures that we are not housing anyone that has a current warrant out for his or her arrest. We check our "Do Not House" list to see if potential residents have been evicted for violence or have used up their time for the year.

Length of Stay

If residents have lived in Monroe or Owen Counties (staying in a shelter or jail does not count), they are eligible for the 30-day self-sufficiency program. This can be extended up to a total of 90 days depending on the individual's case plan. If they are not from Monroe or Owen Counties, residents are only eligible to stay for 3 nights.
