public class RFIDExample
extends JPanel
implements TagReaderListener

This class is intended to illustrate the ease of implementing a simple java application to utilize the RFID tag reader Phidget. It displays a list of tags (of many types). When a tag is placed in range of the reader, the application lights up the respective GUI element to indicate which tag is present. When the tag is removed, the GUI element returns to "unlit."

Constructor that sets up the data and GUI. An instance of TagReader is constructed, the tags are turned into RFIDTagPanel objects for display, and the gui is laid out.

Method Detail

tagEntered

public void tagEntered(String tag)

Callback for when a tag enters the reader's field for the first time. Essentially, this method calls setLitWhenMatches() on all of the tags. The tags are smart enough to look to see if they match and then light up or not. This technique is useful in case tagExited doesn't get called but the tag number changes (i.e. two tags in range are fighting for priority.

tagExited

public void tagExited(String tag)

Callback for when a tag exits the reader's field. This method goes through all the tag GUI widgets and sets them to "unlit." An easier way would be to go directly to the one that's lit and just turn it off. You could store tag-RFIDTagPanel objects in a HashMap to accomplish this.
